9 Ways To Celebrate National Fishing And Boating Week 2016

National Fishing and Boating Week lasts from June 4th through June 10th this year, and is a great excuse to celebrate some of your favorite past times in fishing and boating! National Fishing and Boating Week was created years ago to get people more enthusiastic about being out on the water.Lakes, rivers, streams, parks, and ponds nationwide are celebrating by offering fishing tournaments, classes, clinics and even FREE fishing days in majority of states. For anglers without a license or those just beginning to fish, this is a great excuse to get out and wet a line! Here are a few of the best ways to celebrate National Fishing and Boating Week 2016:

1. Fish and Boat!

Obviously, the first thing you should do on National Fishing and Boating week is just fish and boat! Here is a list of where the best places for getting on a boat are, via TakeMeFishing.

2. Enter a Tournament!

Even if you don’t think you can win, fishing in tournaments is a must, atleast once, for anyone serious about fishing. If you don’t want to be the lead angler, you can even be a coangler!

3. Go Trophy Hunting

What better time to finally say “Today’s the day I catch my PB?” This can be the boost you need to finally go catch a trophy walleye, look for that hawg you’ve heard about in a nearby pond, or even search for a new species.

4. Learn A New Technique

Tons of Southern anglers have never fished a drop-shot, and many anglers have never fly fished! If there’s some sort of technique you’ve been hearing about for years but have yet to try, now is the time!

5. Start a Fishing League

If you hang out with other anglers, start a National Fishing and Boating Week fishing league with your friends! Keep track of most species caught, most fish caught, biggest fish, or any other metric to find out once and for all who’s the best fisherman!

6. Take A National Fishing And Boating Week Trip

Get in the car and find a new lake within driving distance! Fishing new lakes is one of the greatest challenges to anglers, and can be the most rewarding. Do something fun and randomly pick a body of water on the map for your fishing trip, and head out there!

7. Learn!

Does fishing look like fun, but you’ve never tried? Get yourself a rod and reel and the other essentials of a beginner fisherman, and get out on the water. You might snag, birds nest or get skunked, but as they say “A bad day fishing is better than a good day working”

8. Teach!

The kickoff of summer is a great time to teach your kids to fish! Rent a boat, put a life jacket on the little guy, and you might get some great moments like this dude netting his dad’s fish for him!

9. Load Up On Fishing Gear!

Signing up for a tackle subscription will give you some top of the line lures. You’ll receive baits you’ve never heard of or ones you’ve been meaning to try! You get around $25 worth of baits for only $15!
