The New Googan Squad Nuke Punch: Everything You Need To Know

The all-new Googan Baits Nuke Punch is a fish catching machine that has helped the squad round out their line-up of bass fishing soft plastics. By taking the proven features found in the Googan Squad Bandito Bug and applying them to a punching style soft plastic, we know have a soft bait loaded with Googan features designed to haymakers for big bass in the grass.

What Makes It A Punching Bait?

You'll notice a round body that starts with a rounded oval head; the head is intentionally beefed up to help your bait sit perfectly flush with the wide bullet weights used in punch fishing.

The bait's body is slender with ribbed edges running along each side. This subtle feature adds water displacement and, more importantly, provides a more natural feel when the bass latches onto the lure.

Finishing things off is the pair of dual kicking legs that continuously push water as the bait is on the move, giving it the look of bluegill, bream, or baitfish hiding out in the weeds.

What Are The Best Hooks For The Googan Squad Nuke Punch?

The Googan Nuke Punch measures 4" and works best paired with a 3/0-4/0 heavy-duty flippin' hook. The added bulk is meant to enable you to hide that hook point deep into the bait. Make sure to jam the hook into the body of the bait when Texas Rigging.

While heavy-duty flipping hooks are recommended, you can get away with using a 4/0 EWG hook when fishing around sparse cover.

What Rod Should I Use With The Googan Squad Nuke Punch?

Pair the Googan Squad Nuke Punch with a heavy powered rod, thick braided line, and bullet weight weighing between 1/2-2 ounces when flipping or punching.

If you're using the Nuke Punch as a jig trailer or as a flipping and pitching bait, you can downsize to a medium-heavy powered rod with fluorocarbon or braided line. However, if you're fishing grass, always go with the braid.

How Should I Rig To The Googan Squad Nuke Punch?

The Googan Nuke Punch is meant to be Texas Rigged, but its ability to take on the look of so many things makes it a versatile soft plastic. In addition to using it as a punch bait, you can use the Googan Squad Nuke Punch as a jig trailer, on a Carolina Rig, or even on the back of a buzzbait!

What's The Best Gear To Use With The Googan Squad Nuke Punch?

Rod: 7'-7'6'' Heavy Power Casting Rod
Reel: High-Speed Baitcasting Reel 7:1:1+ Gear Ratio
Line: 40-65lb Braided Line

Grab the heaviest rod, thickest braid, heaviest bullet weight, and the stoutest bass fishing worm hooks you own and combine them into a Texas Rig. Now you have a punching set-up.

More advanced anglers prefer punching hooks which are even more stout, and thicker gauged wire to help ensure maximum hook penetration and minimal bend when they set the hook obnoxiously hard, the technique required in punch fishing.
