4 Lb 8.8 Oz Illinois Record Crappie Caught On Lake Kinkaid
Source: Scout
That is a SLAB. The pending state record crappie was caught on a a bluegill-colored 1/2-ounce Strike King Pure Poison Swim Jig with a green pumpkin-colored Rage Craw. The fish has been confirmed as the new record and will end a 40 year streak for the record of 4-8.2 set at Rend Lake.Ryan Povolish caught this insane crappie on Kinkaid Lake in Murphysboro, Ill. As for the future of this fish, you're probably all thinking one of two things: 1. WOW, that is going to taste great in a grease bath, or 2. Let it go and watch it grow! But, Povolish is apparently taking an alternate route and has decided to keep the fish alive during the confirmation of the record before moving it to a tank in a Bass Pro Shops. The Illinois Department Of Natural Resources' Shawn Hirst confirmed the record after assistance in weighing from Povolish and his fishing partner Luke Estel. The way it fought and the size of the hit, they were both sure a bass was on the other end of the line when he set the hook in about 6 feet of water near a weed edge. Little did he know he would break one of the longest standing records in the state's storied fishing history. Congrats to Ryan and here are a few other pictures, courtesy of Scout!
