90 Lb. Kid Catches 60+ Lb. Fish, Sets Florida Catfish Record
Over Memorial Day Weekend of 2016, a 13 year old went out to fish with his stepfather. Just like any other kid with a day off school, he decided to wet a line. Unlike any other kid, however, Charles Patchen is now a verified state record holder in one of the most competitive fishing states in America.
Img Source: ScoutWhen the bite got slow while fishing for bream along the Chattahoochee, he decided to bait up one of the fish he caught and target something a little bigger. And by a little bigger I mean 8 FULL POUNDS (!!!!!) bigger than the previous record of flathead catfish! Charles was using a Zebco combo spooled with 14-pound test. From AZFamily.com, the fish took over 2 hours to reel the 63.8 lb fish in! Next time you go to the movie theater, just remember a 13 year old caught a fish almost as big as him in as long as it took you to watch Finding Dory and eat a bucket of popcorn as big as yourself. What a legend!Friendly reminder that kids fishing is always a great idea. For more tips on how to get your kids involved in fishing, check this out!
