How To Start A Fishing League With Your Friends This Summer

Everyone wants to be the best fisherman in their group of friends. You post pics of lunkers on Instagram, talk a little trash on your group chat, and DEFINITELY don’t tell any of them your secret spot. Fishing, just like every other sport, is competitive. But how do you truly measure who is the greatest fisherman in the group? How do we keep score outside of weight per weekend? By starting your very own summer-long fishing league. Here are the rules:

Fishing League Rules

Start Date: May 7thEnd Date: September 7th+1 Point Per Largest Fish of EACH SPECIESMinimum Length: 12" (sorry 11 inch slab bluegill)Measurement to the nearest 1/4"Photo Upload WITH MEASUREMENT is requiredThe rules go like this: Throughout the summer (now through the end of September), keep track of the largest (we measure by length) of each species you catch. You prove you caught each behemoth in a photo, lying it down next to your measuring tape like this:

Measure your fish from head to tail, and upload your image to the group. The biggest you can reel in of each species goes down as your score for that species on the scorecard. If yours is the longest, you score a point for that species, and it goes in the record book. Scorecards and record books will look like this:

Whoever has caught the biggest fish in each category gets a point, and the person with the most points at the end of the fishing league is the winner! The winner of this fishing league's grand prize will be a 3 month subscription to Mystery Tackle Box!For those of you that have seen the YouTube series 39 Hours, this is an adaptation of that game created by Garrett Fischer and his friends as they attempt to catch the biggest fish in the Midwest over an entire summer. I will be updating this scoreboard as the summer goes on, keeping everyone in the loop on the hogs caught by everyone in this fishing league. My money is on this guy:
