Man Sentenced To One Year In Federal Prison For Selling Sturgeon Caviar

An Illinois man was arrested and has now been sentenced for violating the Lacey Act, which bans the sale and transportation of any fish taken illegally. The convicted poacher used commercial-style fishing nets on the Ohio River to catch the heavily protected shovelnose sturgeon. Then, he'd extract the eggs and drive the roe (the term for fish eggs) down to Tennesse, where he was selling them to a buyer. The man was recently sentenced to serve 12 months in federal prison and pay $10,000 in restitution.
