The Berkley Powerbait Fight’n Bug Packs a Punch

Aptly named, this pugnacious arthropod packs a punch! The Fight’n Bug, from Berkley’s Powerbait, is a one-of-a-kind soft plastic that excels in both the warm and cool months.

Warm Months

The Powerbait Fight’n Bug has quickly become an angler's best friend for pitching, flipping, and punching. Measuring in at only 3.5 inches with a relatively thin profile, it is compact enough to slip through the thickest cover where bulkier baits hang up. Around docks and wood cover, anglers can rig the the Fight’n Bug as a trailer on the back of a 3/8 oz - 1/4 oz flipping jig. If you are fishing an area with chunk rock or bluff walls, then try threading the Fight’n Bug onto a football jig like the Greenfish Tackle Crawball. Throughout the warmer months, bass often retreat back into dark lairs under a canopy of vegetation. For close-quarters combat with these angry green fish, the Fight'n Bug is the perfect punching bait. With a heavy flippin' rod, a straight shank flippin’ hook, and a pegged 1/2 oz to 1 1/2 oz bullet weight. With this technique, use a snell knot to increase your hookups! Check out BASS Elite Series Pro Fletcher Shryock’s video for more specific information on this technique!

Cool Months

When the water is below 60 degrees, the Fight'n Bug excels in a completely different way, making it one of the most versatile soft plastics on the market! One technique that has been taking the fishing world by storm is the use of rugby jigheads. This rig is ideal for when an angler has to cover water and locate bass. Try using the Fight’n Big on a Freedom Tackle Lures Football Jig. For this tactic, cast around 45 degree pea gravel and chunk rock banks. Use a low gear ratio reel to maintain bottom contact. Once you have located fish, you can slow down and milk the area by using the Fight'n Bug on a shaky head. One of the first things you will notice about the Fight'n Bug is that its claws are large. However, due to the buoyancy of the claws, the Fight'n Bug actually mimics the natural defensive posture of a threatened crawfish. Anglers can rig the craw on a 3/0 long shank shaky head to fish chunk, rock pea gravel, and docks. So the next time you're on the water, try throwing Berkley's Powerbait Fight'n Bug using one of these techniques for either warm or cool times of the year. Tight lines!
