A crankbait is a hard-bodied floating lure built with a plastic or metal lip to help the lure dive down when reeled in. Crankbaits come in various sizes and diving depths, helping anglers quickly cover water in depths ranging from 1-30 feet. The length and angle of the baits bill determine its diving depth and wobble when swimming underwater. Short-billed crankbaits swim shallow, and baits with flat sides have a tight wobble. Since crankbaits have exposed treble hooks, they work best away from grassy or weedy areas.
