LIVETARGET Bluegill Squarebill

LIVETARGET has done is again with the Bluegill Squarebill! Lifelike detailing and a vivid paint job are hallmarks of the LIVETARGET brand, and this crankbait is a thing of beauty. However, not only does is look good, it flat out catches fish. For anglers who demand the best, the LIVETARGET crankbait series fits the bill.

Techniques

Oftentimes when bass are feeding around shallow cover such as stumps, laydowns, dock pilings, and standing timber, they are gorging themselves on sunfish. In the late spring and early summer especially, when sunfish are spawning, wolfpacks of bass roam warm, shallow flats with cover and a hard bottom, eating bedding sunfish. Resident shallow fish, (fish that live in a certain area all year long), eat sunfish such as bluegill and pumpkinseed all year long. All squarebill crankbaits excel around shallow cover, but the LIVETARGET Squarebill Crankbait sets itself apart due to it’s realism. Start throwing this crankbait when the water reaches the mid- to upper-60s making sure to “grind” the bait on the bottom and ram it into shallow cover.

Gear

Anglers can maximize the success of the LIVETARGET Squarebill Crankbait by using it with the right rear. The hooks on this bait are sticky-sharp, so an angler does not need an exaggerated hookset. Instead, simply allow the fish to load up onto the bait and then pull back and and maintain constant pressure on the fish. A medium or medium-heavy action rod with a slow action will allow the you to set the hook and keep the bass buttoned up. Some anglers even use fiberglass rods when cranking, though this depends more on personal preference than rules of thumb. Use a medium gear ratio baitcasting reel and 12-17 lb fluorocarbon and monofilament.
